Dual Degree Academics ProgrammesB.Tech Dual Degree Programme: Admission through IIT-JEE. Two degrees ( B.Tech and M Tech) will be awarded at the end of 5 year course for qualifying students. B. Tech. degree is awarded in the branch of the department while M Tech degree will be awarded in the specialization that is decided at the time of admission. Academic core program up to third year is common with the four year B Tech program. Fourth year onwards electives for Dual Degree students will be in the area of their specialization. The Dual Degree program was initiated in the year 1998 as a response to the need felt in the industry for quality engineers with strong technical knowledge as well as practical experience. The admission into this program is through the prestigeous, nation-wide entrance examination namely the Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE). One important reason for students deciding to join Dual Degree program of 10 semester duration (5years) is that it saves since it saves a year over the normal B.Tech (4years) + M.Tech (2 years), and offers a practical base in the later years of the programme. The Dual Degree students are along with the B. Tech. Students till six semesters, after which they have M.Tech elective courses besides a 14 month long project, usually related to an industrial problem . The key feature of the dual degree program is the 14-month project. This project develops sound overall technical knowledge in the branch and expertise in the field of specialization providing a combination, which imbibes the best of under- graduate and graduate programs. This duration aids the student in carrying out in depth study in the topic of his/her choice. Apart from that, ninth and tenth semester students are offered "Half Time Teaching Assistantships" subject to valid scores in GATE(Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering). This offers an opportunity as a teaching assistant to clarify concepts in courses done earlier as part of the Bachelor's curriculum and is also an effective method to hone one's communication skills. Thus, the JEE background, competitive and exhaustive curriculum and a major project work to prepare the best engineers with strong foundation, excellent and deeper knowledge.
