B.Tech. Academics ProgrammesB.Tech Programme Candidates who have passed the final examination under the 10+2 system or its equivalent with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or 3 year Diploma in Engineering awarded by Boards of Technical education and who have been placed in the final merit list in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) are considered for admission to the B.Tech programme in the year in which the JEE is held. The JEE is jointly held once a year by the seven Indian Institutes of Technology, the Institute of Technology BHU, Varanasi and the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. The IITs separately maintain independent webpages for information regarding the Joint Entrance Examination. Below is a link to the IIT Madras JEE Page: http://jee.iitm.ac.in Seats are reserved or scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, physically handicapped candidates and for children of Defence/Para Military personnel killed or permanently disabled, in accordance with The Government of India orders issued from time to time. Preparatory Course: A one year preparatory course for SC/ST candidates is offered to improve their intake in the B.Tech programme.Generally 30 to 40 candidates from the non-qualif ied candidates list in the ranking order of JEE are taken.In this programme they have to undergo courses in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English for two semesters and successfully complete the courses. On their successful completion, available discipline/branch in the B.Tech programme will be allotted from the vacancies of that year's quota for SC/ST candidates.The course is residential.They are eligible for all concessions during g the period of coaching on par with the regular students in the matter of admission sion to the B.Tech programme. The Joint Admission Committee finally decides the admission of these students.
