Computer Center

The Computer Centre of IIT Guwahati is the epicentre of all computing facilities for students, faculty members and staff. The centre has all the flavours of Unix, Linux and Windows. The servers in the centre are from HP, Sun, Silicon Graphics, IBM and Intel based. The students connect to the servers either from the PCs available in the Centre/departments or from their hostel rooms. The Computer Centre has over 100 P-IV PCs with both Linux and Windows XP installed.

In order to provide network connectivity to the IITG family there are three leased lines - a 2Mbps(1:2) leased line from India , a 2 Mbps(1:1) leased line from VSNL, Guwahati. and another 2 Mbps(1:1) leased line from STPI, Guwahati.

The Computer Centre also manages the IITG LAN, IITG Telephone Exchange and provide support to the users. New hardware and software are procured on a regular basis so as to provide a state of the art computing facility to the IITG family. The resource of the centre is also availed by students/researchers of other institutions in and around Guwahati.
