Center for Energy

History

The Centre for Energy at Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati was established during May, 2004 with an objective to impart teaching, conduct research and to provide consultancy in various facets of energy technology and systems. The center has ambitious plans to grow in to a major centre in the region catering to the training and research needs of the Indian energy sector and contributing to the international research in the energy. Looking into the potential and application of different energy resources from the north eastern region of India, it is emphasized that the Centre will give priority to activities in the field of bio-energy, small hydro-power, solar photovoltaic and solar thermal power. Apart from these, the Center plans to broaden its activities in the area of alternative fuels, clean coal technology, wind power, energy integration and conservation in process plants.
The Centre has started conducting interactive programs like short-term course, training and demonstration (lab to field).


The Vision

1. To foster development of research and education in the multi -disciplinary area of energy at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. 2.To create and nurture an environment conducive for collaborative research and teaching by providing appropriate facilities.
3. To provide faculty, staff and students with the state-of-the-art facilities for carrying out research and education in areas fundamentally important to the Centre.
4. Cater to the training and research needs of the Indian energy sector giving a special emphasis for rural employment generation and to create a pollution free environment.


The Mission

Identify Areas of Interest for the Research Programmes
1. Create Infrastructure Facilities at the Centre: Specific Laboratories, Equipment and Supporting Staff
2. Provide Technical Support for the Undergraduate as well as Post Graduate Research Projects in the area of energy
3. To conduct short-term Courses/Training/ Workshops to people of energy sectors, unemployed youths
4. Identify Areas of Interest for Teaching Programmes
5. Begin and Operate Doctor of Philosophy programme in the areas of energy engineering that is relevant to the Centre
6. Begin and Operate Master of Technology programme in the areas of energy engineering that is relevant to the Centre
7. Initiate collaborative projects with industry in the area of energy
